چکیده

Dewaxed bamboo culms (Neosinocalamus affinis) were sequentially extracted with distilled water and 70% ethanol at 80 oC for 3 h, 0.2 and 0.5 M NaOH, 70% ethanol containing 0.6 M NaOH, and 1.0 and 2.0 M NaOH at 50 oC for 3 h using a solid to liquid ratio of 1:25 (g/mL). The hemicellulosic fractions obtained were characterized by high performance anion exchange chromatography (HPAEC), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, H and C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and 2D heteronuclear single quantum coherence (HSQC) NMR spectroscopies. Compared to the water-soluble fraction, the alkali-soluble hemicelluloses primarily consisted of xylose (73.5-92.7%), and had a more linear structure and larger macromolecules, evidenced by Xyl/Ara ratios (11.0-22.9) and higher average molecular weights (Μw = 41200-68770 g/mol). Increasing the alkaline concentrations from 0.2 to 2.0 M NaOH decreased the molecular weights from 68770 to 42790 g/mol, but increased the Xyl/Ara ratios from 11.0 to 22.9 in the hemicellulosic fractions. The fractions isolated with 0.5 and 1.0 M NaOH were found to be composed of a linear (1→4)-β-D-xylopyranosyl main chain substituted by a small amount of L-arabinofuranosyl at C-2 and/or C-3 together with a minor quantity of 4-O-methylglucuronic acid at C-2, representing typical polysaccharide structure in bamboo.

Structural Differences between the Lignin-Carbohydrate Complexes (LCCs) from 2- and 24-Month-Old Bamboo (Neosinocalamus affinis)

The lignin-carbohydrate complex (LCC) was isolated from milled wood lignin of 2- and 24-month-old crude bamboo (Neosinocalamus affinis) culms using acetic acid (AcOH) and then characterized. The results have shown that the LCC preparation from 2-month-old bamboo (L₂) exhibited a slightly lower molecular weight than the LCC preparation from the 24-month-old bamboo (L24). Further studies using Fo...

Characterization of Extracted Lignin of Bamboo (neosinocalamus Affinis) Pretreated with Sodium Hydroxide/urea Solution at Low Temperature

Ball-milled bamboo (Neosinocalamus affinis) was first treated under ultrasound at 20 C in 95% ethanol solution for 0 to 50 min, dissolved in sodium hydroxide/urea solution (7% NaOH/12% urea) at –12 C, and then extracted with ethanol and dioxane to isolate lignin. The structure of the isolated lignin was characterized with a set of wet chemical and spectroscopic methods, including UV, FT-IR, C N...

Alkali Extraction and Physicochemical Characterization of Hemicelluloses from Yong Bamboo (phyllostachys Pubescens Mazel)

Two hemicellulose fractions were obtained by extraction of one-monthold young bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens Mazel). The fractionation procedure employed 2% NaOH as extractant, followed by filtration, acidification, precipitation, and washing with 70% ethanol solution. The total yield was 26.2%, based on the pentosan content in bamboo. The physicochemical properties were determined and sugar c...

Tensile Strength Analysis of bamboo and Layered Laminate Bamboo composites

Tensile properties of bamboo laminae, prepared from bamboo slivers, selected from different regions of bamboo culms (Dendrocalamus strictus), increases from inner to outer region for any cross section and the same is experienced from bottom to top. Application of rule of mixture, on linear regression line drawn from test results, show that fiber strength increases and matrix strength decreases ...
